Using a flat roof as building ground to add a storey is a great way to create significantly more living space on the same floor area. A single-storey detached house in Meerbusch was extended as a timber construction. Only thanks to the lightweight construction with wood was such an extension statically possible.
Thanks to the newly gained living space, an additional 115 square metres of space will provide plenty of room for a parents' wing with bedroom, bathroom and dressing room, a study and a spacious guest area. The new storey has been deliberately given a metal cladding to visually set it apart from the existing building, making the extension clearly visible from the outside. The property of the detached single-family house borders directly on a forest and meadow landscape. Large new window fronts on all floor levels open the house to nature.
